Born in Toronto in 1982, Andrea Mai is a contemporary artist and intuitive channel whose work dissolves the boundaries between sight, perception, and spirit. Her practice is a profound exploration of seeing not with the eyes, but with the soul.
Legally blind since her teens, Andrea’s relationship with visual art shifted from technical craft to intuitive expression. Photography became a medium to capture light, shadow, and essence in ways detail could not convey—seeing beyond what the eyes can measure.
Her artistic journey is inseparable from a deep curiosity for the metaphysical. Andrea’s intuitive practice intensified in 2016 through a persistent presence of the late musician Prince Rogers Nelson, evolving into channeled writings and automatic drawings. This collaboration organically manifested in her photographic work, creating a dialogue between artist and muse that remains private and unfolding.
Complementing her visual work, Andrea writes and analyzes modern systems. She is the author of books exploring Human Design and AI, alongside the satirical novel Condozilla, chronicling the epic struggle of a self-represented litigant against a corrupt condo board.
Andrea’s work draws from Claude Monet’s impressionism, Cindy Sherman’s conceptual self-examination, Andy Warhol’s pop-cultural alchemy, and Man Ray’s surreal innovation—yet her methodology remains uniquely her own.
Since 2018, she has undertaken scientific study of spirit communication, specializing in EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomenon) to capture and analyze auditory phenomena from the unseen. This research grounds her intuitive practice in evidence while preserving its poetic mystery.
Ultimately, Andrea Mai translates the whispers of the unseen into form, creating work that invites viewers and readers to notice what often passes unnoticed. Her blog serves as an archive of these explorations—moments, patterns, and insights—some shared publicly, others reserved for those who wish to journey deeper.
