The old one had become clunky, and the updates were conflicting with the design in ways I couldn’t resolve. At first, I resisted the change\u2014I had spent years cultivating a specific visual aesthetic, and letting go of it felt like a loss. But the technical issues forced my hand, and I eventually made the switch to a simpler, more streamlined theme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the process, I made a decision that surprised me: I stopped using featured images for my blog posts. For years, I had been delaying publication because I didn’t have an image that matched the post. The visual requirement had become a gatekeeper, not an enhancement. It was preventing me from publishing, and I finally recognized that the aesthetic was getting in the way of the content. So I let it go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When I looked at the astrological transits, the shift made sense. Uranus had been in Taurus since 2018, and that transit was deeply focused on the material, the sensual, and the visual. Taurus rules aesthetics, physical form, and the tangible world. Under Uranus in Taurus, the pressure to curate a visually perfect online presence was immense. However, Uranus in Gemini also brings instability. Gemini is fast-moving, restless, and constantly processing information. Uranus is the planet of sudden change, disruption, and the unexpected. Internet outages, phone disruptions, platform instability, and sudden changes in how we connect are all part of this transit. The systems we rely on are in flux, and they will remain in flux for the next several years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Adapting to this transit requires a shift in strategy. Relying on any single platform for your work is risky. Algorithms can change, accounts can be removed, and platforms can become obsolete. The most stable approach is to own your own platform\u2014a blog, a newsletter, or a podcast hosted on a server you control. Social media can still be used to reach people, but it should not be the primary home for your work. It is a channel, not a foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The shift to a more information-focused approach is not just about surviving the instability\u2014it is about aligning with the energy of the moment. The era of the curated image is over. The era of the message is beginning. The content matters more than the container. If you are still hesitating to publish because the visuals are not perfect, consider letting go of that requirement. The message is what people need. The rest is just packaging. The transit will last long enough that adapting to it is not optional. It is the new environment. The sooner we recognize that, the sooner we can build systems that can withstand the disruption. The platforms are not going to stabilize. The infrastructure is not going to settle. The only reliable response is to focus on the message, to own your own platform, and to build a presence that is not dependent on the stability of systems that are, by nature, unstable.
